Ashen Frontiers News
As promised, this Substack has become only occasional, but it is still a thing, so let’s talk about things:
Player-facing Document Progress
Okay, let’s take a look at what I need to get done for the Player side of Ashen Frontiers:
Ancestries. Complete in an early form.
Backgrounds. Complete in an early form.
Classes/Orders. Complete in BLEND20 form, subject to a few revisions.
Feats/Talents. The Ancestry and Class/Order ones are mostly complete. The Generic ones are still to do, especially since those will be where Psionic Features will appear.
Equipment. There is some progress on Weapons, but I still need to work on Armor and general gear. This will be an area of focus for a little while now.
Spells/Invocations. For the 5e and PF2 versions, this should be relatively straightforward. For the BLEND20 version, I have some work to do on the higher Rank Incantations and rounding out the available Glamors.
So that should be where I am at right now. As mentioned in the last update, the needs of ordinary life mean that I’m not able to commit as much time as I’d like to Ashen Frontiers, but rest assured it is still in progress.
Partial Weapon List
Here’s the current Simple Melee Weapon list, in BLEND20 format:
It may undergo revision, but should be fairly close to final. The Properties should be fairly obvious for the most part, with the note that Precise allows you to make an Accuracy Check for the Weapon instead of a Brawn Check.
The three Damage values for each level of familiarity with the weapon are for Failure | Success | Critical Success. A bit of Damage even on a regular Failure (but not a Critical Failure) is the appeal of using Weapons instead of magic/Psionics, since they’re more reliable.
BLEND20 Work
So I have recently been working on balancing out the Orders, and a simplistic approach to that is how much Damage they can do in combat, depending on the resource they’re able to spend.
Here are the non-magical Orders in terms of possible Damage output:
It’s a bit much to get into, but the elevator pitch is that the numbers are in a close-enough range to move forward. I’ll be working on the magical options as indicated above, and then I’ll have data on that as well.
5e Unfettered
News has broken that the 5e SRD will be updated next year to include the changes coming later this year and early next year and released via the Creative Commons. That will be good, but I am continuing to work on 5e Unfettered projects that use the existing CC SRD.
Here’s a page from the beginning of an adventure that is on the back-burner, but hopefully will get done cooking some time this year:
It should be apparent that it has a seasonal theme, so now is not the time to release it, but getting what work I can get done when time permits is what it is all about.
Sign Off
That’s it for right now, but I wanted y’all to know that, while I will be sporadic, I will not be totally absent. I hope everyone is having fun, and I’ll write as soon as I can.
Later,
